Chris Morris, who was a part of CSK in just
concluded IPL-6 , included in South Africa’s ICC Champions Trophy 2013 squad
after Morne Morkel was ruled out of tournament due to a quad riceps strain.
“Morkel's recovery time will take almost three weeks,” confirmed
Mohammad Moosajee, South Africa’s team manager. “The scan also detected a
tear to the connecting tissue that surrounds the muscle, which is
called a myofasical tear, so that rules him out of the tournament.”
“Dale, as we know, is a work in progress. The challenge for us is that
we can only get him bowling once he is completely symptom free,” said
Moosajee. “If you allow fast bowlers to bowl too early you can aggravate
the injury and go back to square one. Brandon Jackson, our
physiotherapist, is working hard on him and we are taking it day by day.
We will get a better indication of where he is at tomorrow at our net
session in Birmingham.”
Morkel got injured in Thursday’s (June 6) against India in Cardiff, where he bowled just 6.5 overs before leaving
the field. He later returned to bat in the dying moments of the game,
but the discomfort was visible.
