New Zealand Squad for WC T20

New Zealand Cricket General Manager National Selection Bruce Edgar says spinners will play a major role in the tournament.
"As we saw when we toured Bangladesh in October, the pitches will be slow and likely to turn. Consequently we were looking for batsmen who can play spin well as well as some more spin bowling options.

“Anton gives us both top and middle order batting options as well as spin. He performed well on the tour to Bangladesh and the New Zealand A tour to India and Sri Lanka before that.

“And Ronnie is an experienced Twenty20 spin bowler. He’s an excellent fieldsman and he had a very good HRV Twenty20 with Canterbury.”

Head Coach Mike Hesson says after a strong summer at home including a 4-0 One Day International series win over world champions India, New Zealand will be a team that others are wary of.

“The goal for us is simply to keep to the same preparation that served us well over the summer and not get ahead of ourselves.”

New Zealand Squad:

Brendon McCullum (captain), Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Anton Devcich, Martin Guptill, Roneel Hira, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Colin Munro, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson.

Australia's Squad for World T20

Australia's squad for the ICC World Twenty20 is teeming with experience after Brad Hodge, Brad Haddin and Brad Hogg were all named in the men's squad to travel to Bangladesh.

Hogg, absent from Australia's most recent games against England will become the oldest player in the history of international T20s if he gets a game in the tournament, but the most notable selection was that of one-time international outcast Hodge.

Hodge's sparkling Big Bash League form saw him recalled for the second T20 against England last month, his first international match in six years, and as expected, that led to the 39-year-old being included in Australia's 15-man squad.

Hogg's selection continues a tremendous late-career resurgence courtesy of cricket's shortest format.
But the 43-year-old Perth Scorchers spinner may have to fight for a start with young South Australian leg-spinner James Muirhead also picked at the expense of left-arm orthodox Xavier Doherty.

Haddin, who at 36 is the youngest of the three veteran Brads in the line-up, also replaced the incumbent Matthew Wade, a full 10 years Haddin's junior.

Despite indifferent recent form, Glenn Maxwell retained his place in the side with BBL stars like Ben Dunk and Craig Simmons not making the cut.

Selectors are banking on explosive all-rounder James Faulkner to recover from knee surgery in time to contribute to the Australian campaign.

The injured Shane Watson was also picked in the side while Shaun Marsh failed to get a jersey.
Australia is yet to lift the World Twenty20 trophy in four attempts and will be looking to break that duck when the campaign kicks off against Pakistan on March 23.

Australian Squad: George Bailey (c), Dan Christian, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Glenn Maxwell, James Muirhead, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Shane Watson, Cameron White.

Teams groups for ICC T20 WC-2014

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the match schedules and ticket sale plans for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014, which will be staged from 16 March to 6 April.

The first round of the men’s event will include eight sides that will be divided into two groups of four teams each, with the table-toppers progressing to the Super 10 stage.

In the first round, Group A will feature host Bangladesh alongside three teams that will qualify from the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013, to be staged from 15 to 30 November. Group B will include Zimbabwe, which will be joined by another three teams from the upcoming qualifiers. As such, the two groups will be finalized on 30 November.

The Super 10 stage will start with an evening match between former champions India and Pakistan in Dhaka on Friday 21 March.

The two groups of the Super 10 stage are:

Group 1 – Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Group B Qualifier 1 (Q1B)

Group 2 – West Indies, India, Pakistan, Australia, Group A Qualifier 1 (Q1A)

Reigning champion the West Indies will launch its title defence against India in an evening match on Sunday 23 March. Earlier on the same day, Pakistan will lock horns with Australia, which is looking for the only global title that has eluded it to date.

If Bangladesh reaches the Super 10 stage, it will play all its matches in Dhaka, facing the West Indies on 25 March, India on 28 March, and Pakistan on 30 March and Australia on 1 April.

The prize money for the men’s event will be US$3 million, with the winner receiving US$1.1 million and the losing finalist collecting US$550,000.
