India vs West Indies ODI series

After the much hyped test series, now India and West Indies are all set to start the three matches ODI series. Schedule of the three matches are:

1st ODI: India v West Indies at Kochi
Nov 21, 2013 (13:30 IST | 08:00 GMT)

2nd ODI: India v West Indies at Visakhapatnam
Nov 24, 2013 (13:30 IST | 08:00 GMT)

3rd ODI: India v West Indies at Kanpur
Nov 27, 2013 (09:00 IST | 03:30 GMT)

There wasn’t much for West Indies to remember from that test series. They were thrashed by Indian’s. India had won both the test matches on third day. West Indies was looked out of sorts in all departments.

In batting, they were bank on seniors players like Chanderpaul and Gayle but they let them down as both of them failed to play any big innings. In bowling too, they were lack in bowlers who had the experience of Subcontinent pitches. They were seemed to have missed the bowlers likes Rampaul and Sunil Narine in test series.

On other hand, Indian’s were brilliant in all the departments. They were exploited the home conditions pretty well and not allowed West Indies to bounce upon them.

India batsmen were superb, particularly, Rohit Sharma, who was playing his debut series, was fantastic. He made centuries in both the matches and conferred with Man of the series award. In bowling, Fast bowlers and Spinners both were good, though majority of wickets goes to spinners but fast bowlers too bowled pretty well.

But one day games are all different ball game. West Indies have different captain and almost different player which might help them to forget all that miserable time in test matches.

India Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C) (WK), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ambati Rayudu, Amit Mishra, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mohit Sharma

West Indies Squad: Dwayne Bravo (C), Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Narsingh Deonarine, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin (WK), Ravi Rampaul, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons

India vs West Indies, Test 2, Day 2

India had started the second day from 157/2. Sachin Tendulkar and C Pujara were on crease at 38* and 34* respectively. Morning started with huge buzz in and around the ground. Everyone wanted to see their legend to bat for last time.
Sachin didn’t disappoint his fans either and played some refreshing shots. He was looked comfortable at the centre and it seemed at one point that he will finish here in style but he edged the ball into the slips to Sammy when tried to cut the N Deonarine balls. His innings end on 74 runs.

Before going back to the pavilion, Sachin added 144 runs with Pujara for third wicket. Pujara had different plan on this memorable day for Indian cricket; He made 113 runs, which was also his fifth century in test cricket.

C Pujara and Virat Kohli put together 94 runs for fouth wicket. That partnership put India in a commanding position; they were 133 runs ahead of West Indies. Virat Kohli also played his part to well in that partnership and made 57 runs.

After Pujara’s wickets, India was at 354/5. Now Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni had to ensure that India didn’t lose the advantage. Skipper Dhoni, though, fell cheaply and gone for 4 runs. But Rohit Sharma, who started his test career with a BANG, continued his sublime form. In that innings, he got a life when he was caught on mid-on on a NO BALL. He used that chance for a great effect and scored his second hundred in his second test match.

He made unbeaten 111 runs and most of the runs with tail Enders. It was because his innings that India takes such a huge lead of 313 runs in the first innings.

West Indies bowlers failed to restrict India batsman or actually boundaries which hurt them, Boundaries easy the pressure and batsman didn’t felt to take chances. West Indies bowling again revolve around Shane Sillingford, who picked up two wickets on Day 1. First wicket of the day for West Indians was Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket which was taken by Narsingh Deonarine.

Shane Shillingford scalped three more on second day to complete his sixth five wickets haul and fifth consecutive five wickets haul. He finished innings with a terrific  figure of 5/179. Runs might be on a higher side but the reason for that was he bowled maximum number of overs for West Indies, 43 overs.

West Indies openers Chris Gayle and Kieran Powell had daunting task ahead them. But they had continued their form and West Indies lose their first wicket on 15 runs. Tino Best, who was sent as a night watchman could hold his crease for too long and fell on 9 runs that left West Indies on 28 for 2. Darren Bravo was last wicket for Indian on Day 2 who came to crease after Best departure.

Indian was in complete control of the game. Spinners duo R Ashwin and P Ohja again prove too good for West Indies batsman. They share all three wickets of the day between them. Ashwin takes two wickets while Ohja picked up one wicket. For India bowling figures see at the end.

Score: West Indies 43/3 and trial by 270 runs, C Gayle 6* , R Ashwin 2/12

India vs West Indies, Test 2, Day 1

Second test match between India and West Indies started with felicitations of legends from both sides, Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who is playing his 200th test match, which is also his last match and West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who is playing his 150 test match.

On toss, after winning the toss skipper, MS Dhoni had decided to bowl first which disappointed many of  those who were there to see his legend, Sachin Tendulkar bat.

Indian team was unchanged while West Indies had made two changes. Narsingh Deonarine and Shannon Gabriel come into the playing eleven in place of Sheldon Cottrell and Veerasammy Permaul.

West Indies opener Chris Gayle and Kieran Powell came to bat but  again they couldn't resisted India's opening bowlers and Gayle fell on 11 runs that left West Indies 25/1. Powell and Darren Bravo tried to do some repair work but their efforts got hit when bravo was caught by Dhoni on 29 runs. They had added 61 runs for second wicket.

After that there wasn't much for you to look if you are a West Indian fans. Some of the players got starts but they couldn't just able to converted them into big one. Powell (48) and Chanderpaul (25) both couldn't make it big. After Powell's wicket West Indies were at 97/3 and they finished 182 runs that means they lose last seven wicket for 85 runs.

In bowling department, Indian bowlers were outstanding right from the start. Mohammed Shami had provided the early break through but unlike the last match he couldn't take more. Wankhede pitch had some bounce and spin which certainly enough for Indian spinner R Ashwin and P Ohja to decimate West Indies batting line up.

Both spinners were impressive and share 8 wickets between them. Pragyan Ohja in particular was briiliant, he had bowling little slower in air then the last match, which helped him picking up five wickets. R Ashwin scalped three wickets and with that he become the only man in modern day cricket to completed his 100 wickets after 18 matches. For India bowling figures see at the end.

Indian Openers Shikhar Dhawan (33) and Murli Vijay (43) helped India to get off a good start. they had added 77 runs for opening stand but both of them fell in quick succession. That opens the door for Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar to came into the crease. He along with C Pujara added 80* runs for third wicket. Pujara was on 34* and Sachin was on unbeaten 38 when umpire called it day.

West Indies bowler failed to made any statement on first Day. Shane Shillingford was the only one who got couple of wickets.

Score: India 157/7 and trail by 25 runs, Sachin 38*(78) and Pujara 34*(49)

Match Report 1 : Test India beat West Indies

India beat West Indies by 51 runs on third day of the test match at Eden garden, Kolkata. This turnout to be a rather easier game for Indian as one expected before game. After losing the toss and bowling first on a pitch which would be nightmare for the team batting in fourth innings, also raised some eyebrows in India camp.

But playing in subcontinent conditions and that too against team like India is always difficult if you don’t have a strong batting line up. Although almost all West Indies players have the experience to play in these conditions, thanks to IPL. But test cricket is all different game and result of this game proves that too.

India had won all the sessions expect first sessions of Day 1 where they only managed to pick up two wickets and Day 2 where they lost five wickets in one session. Sessions are the important in test cricket and as said by experts, time and again that “those who win more sessions, wins the game”.

Two centuries are all for India to put them ahead in the game where any runs lead was good for team which had to bat last. Rohit Sharma, who was playing his test match after a long wait of more than 100 ODI’s, had again played the match winning knock for India.

But it was another Debutant who impressed everyone with his bowling. Mohammed Shami had picked 9 wickets (four in first innings and five in second) in his first match and made his presence in count in his very outing.

India vs West Indies, Test 1, Day 2

Second day wasn’t started as good as everyone expected for team India. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murli Vijay started from the overnight score of 37/0 but they couldn’t continue their partnership beyond 42 runs. Dhawan edged the ball onto the wicket and gone back on 23 off 34 balls. Murli Vijay wasn’t either waited for too long to did a mistake and tried to go down the wicket for Shillingford. He went back to pavilion on 26 off 76 balls.

After that too there was no cheer for India as they lost wickets that left them 83 for 5. Cheteshwar Pujara was on 17 runs when he tried to guide the ball over slip region but he couldn’t guide the ball beyond wicketkeeper gloves. Sachin Tendulkar, when came to the crease there was a huge cheer for him from the crowd. He had only managed to score 10 runs which included two boundaries.

After the wicket of Virat Kohli, India were in deep trouble and it seemed at one point that they might lost the advantage they got after finishing West Indies innings on Day 1. “First hour or so was crucial for batting side and if they passed that period without any trouble they would be upper hand in the rest of the day” everyone saying that before second day because there was something for bowler at start. But team India might chosen to not hear all that and they had lost the wickets during that period and they were 83/5.

Also See: DAY 1 REPORT

Shane Shillingford was brilliant for West Indies on Day 2 in fact he was the only bowler who created some trouble for Indian batsman. He picked up four wickets which also include the wicket of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar which created some hullabaloo. Debutant Cottrell and Best were the others who picked up wickets.

Rohit Sharma and skipper MS Dhoni provided them some resistance by adding 73 runs for sixth wicket. Their partnership was broken when Dhoni edged the ball to keeper when he was on 42 runs. But the entertainment for crowd couldn’t end there. Rohit Sharma scored a century on his debut and salvages the team under the dark cloud. He along with R Ashwin, who scored unbeaten 92, putted 198 runs for seventh wicket. With the help of their knocks India finished the day at 354/6 and taken a 129 runs lead.

Score: India: 354/6 , Rohit Sharma 127* and R Ashwin 92*

West Indies was in trouble but Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels provided them some resistance by making 60 runs for third wicket partnership before lunch. West Indies was at 107/2 at Lunch which was the good score or a comeback after 47/2. Samuels 65(98) was the more aggressive one in the partnership of 91 runs that ended with his wicket. Bravo 22(96) had not lasted for too long either and was run out by Mohammed Shami in very next over.

There was a flurry of wickets after the lunch session. After Samuels and Bravo wickets, West Indies lost two more quick wickets of Ramdin 4(4) and Sammy 16(19) that left West Indies at 172/6. S Shillingford and S Chanderpaul tried to play the remaining overs of the second session but when S Shillingford was on 5 runs, skipper MS Dhoni throw bowl to Sachin Tendulkar to bowl the last over of the session. Sachin had not disappointed his fan and picked up a wicket in that over without conceding a run

That was his 46th wicket in test career and 201st wicket in international cricket. At that time West Indies were at 192/7 on Tea.

Debutant Mohammed Shami, who got his test cap from Ishant Sharma, was the stand out bowler for India in second session. He picked up three wickets and was involved in one run out. His success was mainly due to his command in inswinging deliveries.

Even after tea, there was no respite for West Indies. They lost wickets in quick succession and collapsed at score of 234. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who had a pretty good record against india, was the last recognize batsman to fell. He made 36 runs in  79 balls.

Indian bowlers exploit the home conditions well and every bowler were among the wickets. Mohammed Shami was "the best new ball bowling for indie after long time as said by commentators", finished his first innings in test on a high by bagged the last West Indian wicket of Sheldon Cottrell, which is his fourth wicket of the match. Indian bowler figure (At the end)

Indian Openers Shikhar Dhawan 21*(27) and Murli Vijay 16*(45) played more sensible cricket and not gave West Indies bowlers any chance to cheer on day 1.

West Indies had not lost the wickets but they also lost the advantage they got after winning the toss. Now India is right at the top after the day 1. India finished the day without losing a wicket on 37 runs

Match 6: India vs West indies, CT-2013

India's dream run in champions trophy continue with a victory over west indies. They are unbeaten so far in champions trophy including their practice matches against Sri Lanka and Australia. With a victory against west indies India confirm their place in semi's.

After winning the toss against new West Indian captain and their CSK team mate Dwayne Bravo, Indian captain MS Dhoni elected to bowl first in the overcast condition at Oval.

Indian bowler successfully restricted the Chris Gayle who always be a dangerous player in any condition. Gayle got out cheaply on 21 off 18 balls. Opener Johnson Charles started well and looked in good touch before he fell on 60 off 55 balls. when it looks that Indian could restricted the West Indies under 200, Darren Sammy came up with some responsibility and scored unbeaten 56 off 35 out of which 51 he scored with Kemar Roach for 10th wicket partnership. He not tried to just play full 50 over but played his natural attacking game. Its because of his contribution West indies were able to a total of 233/9 before India. India bowlers started well and gave away only 80 in first 15 overs but the real show started with the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja. he seems like taking his Sir tag seriously, in every second game he came up with a brilliant show either by batting or bowling. In that time its his bowling who made people say "SIR JADEJA". For his match winning figure of 5/36 he later got the Man of the Match.

He was well supported by all Indian bowler, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin as they all taken 1 wicket each.

Indian batting looked sorted, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan provided them the start India wanted, they both put 101 on board when Rohit departed. After Rohit, Dhawan was joined by Virat Kohli who played hi 100th match.

Shikhar Dhawan' dream run continued since his debut in test cricket, after a century in 1st match against South Africa he scored unbeaten 102 off 107 in this match too. Dinesh Karthik, who scored 51* in 56 balls and he crusies India to 8 wickets victory over West Indies.
