Match Report 1 : Test India beat West Indies

India beat West Indies by 51 runs on third day of the test match at Eden garden, Kolkata. This turnout to be a rather easier game for Indian as one expected before game. After losing the toss and bowling first on a pitch which would be nightmare for the team batting in fourth innings, also raised some eyebrows in India camp.

But playing in subcontinent conditions and that too against team like India is always difficult if you don’t have a strong batting line up. Although almost all West Indies players have the experience to play in these conditions, thanks to IPL. But test cricket is all different game and result of this game proves that too.

India had won all the sessions expect first sessions of Day 1 where they only managed to pick up two wickets and Day 2 where they lost five wickets in one session. Sessions are the important in test cricket and as said by experts, time and again that “those who win more sessions, wins the game”.

Two centuries are all for India to put them ahead in the game where any runs lead was good for team which had to bat last. Rohit Sharma, who was playing his test match after a long wait of more than 100 ODI’s, had again played the match winning knock for India.

But it was another Debutant who impressed everyone with his bowling. Mohammed Shami had picked 9 wickets (four in first innings and five in second) in his first match and made his presence in count in his very outing.

India vs West Indies, Test 1, Day 3

India started the day from 354/6 with Rohit Sharma on 127* and R Ashwin on 92*. Both started the day well for India. They added 82 runs to India’s corpus and to their partnership of 198* before Rohit was judged LBW by umpire Kettleborough on Permaul’s bowling. Their partnership of 280 runs was the record partnership for India for seventh wicket.

Rohit added 50 more runs to his overnight score and finished on 177 runs with 23 fours and one six. With that Rohit become the second highest runs getter on debut for India. Ashwin wasn’t too behind and completed his second ton of the career. He made 124 runs with 11 boundaries.

After that, Indian tail Enders only managed to put nine runs to the scoreboard and India finished on 453 runs. India got the lead of 219 runs which was a huge one on that pitch. West Indian Bowlers or you can say spinners picked up all four wickets remaining wickets on Day 3.

Permaul, who was wicket less on Day 2, scalped two wickets and their strike bowler, Shane Shillingford, also added two more to his last night four wickets. With that Shillingford finished at 6/167.

West Indies must be expected a great start from his openers, Chris Gayle and Kieran Powell. Gayle started in his very own style and smashed few boundaries which led him to 33 runs. West Indies score was parallel to him that is 33 runs for no loss.

But that’s ended when he tried to pull the B Kumar’s short delivery and was caught by Virat Kohli. Darren Bravo (37), who came to the crease after Gayle’s wicket, had tried to consolidate the innings with Powell They made 68 runs for second wicket before Powell was plumbed in front of wickets and given out on Ashwin’s Delivery.

West Indies was at 101 for 2 and they need 118 runs more to shunned the innings defeat. But after that there wasn’t much for West Indies who lost next eight wickets in the span of 67 runs. Samuels (4), Ramdin (1) and Sammy (8), all collapsed before Shami’s storm. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the last man stand for West Indies and he made unbeaten 31.

Once again, Indian bowling revolves around Mohammed Shami. He was fast and accurate and to prove that true, he has stats with him. He got three wickets bowled and one LBW that shows bowling on wickets is always a good idea. Mohammed Shami finished this innings with five wicket haul. If he was good in first innings then he was deadly in second.

Ashwin couldn’t stop after scoring a ton and done what was expected from him that is picking up some wickets and he did exactly that by scalping three wickets. Indian Bowling figures (See at the end of post)

India had won the game by 51 runs and Rohit Sharma was awarded with Man of the Match in his debut match.

Match Report 6:India vs Australia

Indian opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were high on confidence after their 178 runs opening stand in last match and started in the same manner in this game too. They provided hundred runs opening stand and put together 112 runs in 19 overs. Dhawan was the first one who got out on 60 off 57. After that it was the flurry of wicket which also included last match hero Virat Kohli (0) too.

But that match not gone be ended just like any other game. Rohit and MS Dhoni played some fantastic shots to placed really huge target of 383 runs before Aussies. They scored 167 runs in just 94 balls for fifth wicket that gave India a seriously good chance to win the series. Rohit scored double century and became the third man to do so in one day internationals. He scored 209 runs in 158 balls with 12 fours and 16 sixes, which is more sixes by any batsman in an innings.

Rohit Sharma's innings was an epitome of how one can score big runs and can hit big shots without slogging. He kept his innings cool and hit some breathe taking shots. Though Skipper MS Dhoni innings of 62 off 38 balls wasn't the talking point after the innings but he played his part really well in that innings.

Aussie bowling without Mitchell Johnson was lacking in pace and experience. Left-arm Xavier Doherty picked up couple of wickets and was economical before the Rohit's carnage in last overs. Aussies had a huge task before them of chasing 384 runs. They might be wanted to chase it down because they had lost two high scoring games to India in this series and that win might be proved as a face saving for them.

India bowling which looked clumsy, suddenly relive and all credit for that goes to Mohammed Shami. His extra pace and early wickets gave India some momentum in bowling at start. But despite picking some early wickets India again failed to exploit the situation and gave Aussies chance to taken the match to 45th over. India bowling figures(See below):

Aussies were at 74 runs for 4 wickets after 17 overs when Glenn Maxwell came to the crease. His first 6 balls were 6 4 2 4 6 6 it shows how he started his innings inspite of Aussies trouble when he came to crease. This also showed some intent from Aussies who before that looked perplexed about how to go for that target and also put indian bowler to back foot. He made 18 balls fifty and finished on 60 off 22 balls. Watson, who came late in this match due to his hamstring problem, continued from where maxwell left. He made 49 in just 22 balls with six sixes.

But Aussies innings wasn’t ended after that. That match and series had one more century left for fans and that came from all-rounder James Faulknar, who singlehandedly fought till the end and made 116 in 73 balls. He along with Mckay put 115 runs partnership for ninth wicket. But this couldn’t save Aussies from defeat and they fell 57 runs before.

Rohit Sharma was awarded with man of the match for his double century knock in that game and also man of the series for scoring highest runs for India.
