Match Report 5: India vs Australia

India beat Australia in a high scoring game by 6 wickets at Nagpur on Tuesday. It seems like that scores of excess 300 acts as a catalyst for Indian team. They just made a colossal target of 351 runs looked as a speck one again. Again because it seemed like that they repeating their performance of Jaipur where they had embarrassed Aussies when they gave a target of 360.

On toss, skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to ball first on a slow Nagpur pitch. On the basis of pitch, India played with three spinners that gave Amit Mishra his first chance in this series. Indian bowlers started in a fairly good manner and picked up couple of early wickets that left Aussies 46/2 after 12 over’s.

But after that it was all about Shane Watson, who got life when he was caught on No ball in Jadeja's overs when he was at 25 runs, and skipper George Bailey. They both made 168 runs for third wicket and successfully recovered team from what could have been a disastrous situation if Watson would have been out on 25 runs to 213 runs.

Waston was bowled by Shami Ahmed after his 102 runs knock in just 94 balls but that does not stop Bailey, who is going through the form of his life, to make his first century in this series. He made 156 off 114 with 13 fours and 6 sixes at strike rate of 136.8. It was only because of his innings that Aussies was able to reach at a score of 350 on a wicket where average first innings score was 391.

Indian bowlers yet again disappoint with their efforts in middle overs, where they weren't seemed like picking up any wicket, and in dept overs, where they weren't able to even stop runs. Spinners bowled their full quota of overs but they too failed to make any mark on a slow track against Aussies.

India had needed 351 runs to win but at this time that wasn't look as awful as it was when same team gave India a target of 360. Yes, everyone knows that replicating the same what India did in Jaipur wasn't as easy as they did in that match but at least that gave everyone a confidant that this team can do that and even Aussies might not be sure after scoring that huge target.

India must also be aware of the fact that it was only Aussies who lost matches after putting big scores on board. Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma 79 (89) provided them the much needed start which was required to chase that huge target of 351. They improved their performance from the Jaipur match where they scored 176 for opening partnership by scoring 2 more runs this time that is 178 runs.  Dhawan, particularly, played some fantastic shot in his 100 runs innings.

But when India needs 300 or more to win in ODI's how can India's innings finish before Virat Kohli's, at least that's what stats says. Today he scored his 11 century while chasing and every time his made century India win that game. In this game too, a heroic performance of Virat Kohli made it so simple of India though some wickets at the end might raised concern for India but wicket in hand helped India to safely cruising to victory.

Kohli Centuries

Kohli made 115 runs in just 61 balls with 18 fours and 1 biggie. He had won Man of the Match of his match winning innings.

Match Report: 1st ODI, India vs Australia

Australia beat India by 72 runs in the 1st ODI at Pune on 13 Oct. Australia after winning the toss, opted to bat first. Openers Aaron Finch 72(79) and Phillip Hughes 47(53) provided them the steady start, they put 110 runs stand for 1st wicket in 18.2 overs. Hughes was the first one who got out. After him Shane Watson came to the crease, who was failed to made any mark and gone cheaply on 2 runs off 4 balls.

Captain George Bailey, who came out after Watson, anchored the Australia's innings along with the Finch. He made 85 runs in 82 balls with the help of 10 fours. Glenn Maxwell scored 31(23) with 3 sixes, but he was again failed to capitalize the start he got. Indian bowling failed again, after the lone T20 on 10 Oct, where also they gone for so much runs. After first 15 overs Australia were at 85/0, though they not allowed Australian's to score at a good rate but they were too not able to pick up wickets. This help Aussies to maintained the 5.5 -6 RR through out their innings. India's tall fast bowler Ishant Sharma was the most expensive among Indian bowlers. he gave away 56 runs in 7 overs with 1 wicket. Yuvraj Singh (2/34) and R Ashwin (2/55) were the pick of the bowlers for India.

Here are comparison of Indian Pacer and Spinners:

26-0-124-5 - Indian spinners

24-3-177-2 - Indian pacers

"India have never beaten Australia chasing a 300+ target". This statistic made that target of 300 so difficult what it like to be. Failure of Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan 7(15) to set up the good opening stand and slow start made things more difficult for the other batsman's.

Suresh Raina 39(45), who joined the Rohit Sharma 42(47) put 40 runs for 2 wicket before Rohit was edged to wicket keeper. Virat Kohli - who was the only one who looked settle than any other batsman - along with the Raina build up the partnership of 71 off 81 balls. He made 61 off 85 balls with 6 fours. After Raina's wicket there was no big partnership between any pair, which is the most important aspect to chase 300 like target.

None of the batsman, after Kohli were able to cross 20 runs mark, Yuvraj (7), Dhoni (19), Jadeja (11) and Ashwin (5), which resulted into the horrible lose by 72 runs.

Australian bowlers were hard for Indian batsman to tackle because of their speed and line & length. All Aussie bowler were good even there spinner despite the fact that Indians are good to face spinners.
Johnson ( 1/38) and  Mckay (2/36), both bowled their full quota of overs. Both Faulkner (3/47) and
Watson (2/31) bowled 8 overs each.

So as we said that 50 overs game is totally different than 20 overs game is prove here with the lost of favorite India Captain George Bailey was awarded with Man of the Match foe their brilliant knock of 85(82).
