That’s what he said in a press release by club:

"I'm really honoured to be part of Lancashire once again," "It is something that I never thought would happen but, after training with the squad over the last few months, I am really happy that they have invited me to play.

"I have worked really hard to get back to my fittest and I hope that we have a successful summer. I'm just glad that I can be part of it."

Lancashire cricket director Mike Watkinson said about inclusion of flintoff in his club:

"We are delighted to have Fred involved once again at the club,"

"He is Lancashire through and through and his record for both club and country speaks for itself," the former England international added.

"'Fred' (Flintoff) has been back at Emirates Old Trafford under his own steam since the (English) winter and has been working with the Academy and in the nets with some of the other players.

"Over a period of time he has picked up on his physical conditioning and this continues to improve. He has shown in practice that he still has plenty of class with bat and ball."

Official statement from ECB about Kevin

Kevin Pietersen met with Paul Downton, the Managing Director England Cricket, this week and was told that the unanimous decision of the England management, including the selectors, was that now was the time to start the rebuilding process after England's disappointing winter in Australia.

'Clearly this was a tough decision because Kevin has been such an outstanding player for England as the fact that he is the country's leading run scorer in international cricket demonstrates. Paul Downton, the Managing Director England Cricket said

'However everyone was aware that there was a need to begin the long term planning after the Australia tour. Therefore we have decided the time is right to look to the future and start to rebuild not only the team but also team ethic and philosophy.

'England cricket owes a debt of gratitude to Kevin who has proved to be one of the most talented and exciting players to ever represent the country and his 13,797 runs are a testimony to his immense skill.

'This decision brings some clarity now for the future of the England teams and we all wish Kevin the very best in the rest of his career.'
